City of Smyrna Court Information and Basic Rules of Court Conduct
Security Precautions:
- A security checkpoint with an officer and metal detector will check for prohibited items. The officer should be allowed to search any bags, packages or personal belongings that will be taken into the courtroom. Refusal to cooperate may result in denial of entry to your hearing.
- No weapons of any kind (e.g. guns, knives, pepper spray, tools, etc.)
Dressing for Court:
If you are appearing in court you should dress nicely and in a manner that shows respect for the court, judge and staff
- No hats (except those worn for religious purposes)
- Sunglasses need to be removed
- No shorts, no tank tops, no halter tops and no T-shirts depicting violence, sexual acts, profanity or illegal drugs are allowed
Other Rules of Court Conduct:
- No food or drinks
- No loud gum chewing
- No reading materials
- Electronic devices shall be turned off (cell phones, laptops, etc.)
Please do not bring children to court unless the court has ordered them to be present. Many topics discussed in the courtroom are not appropriate for children and may be hurtful or confusing. There is limited space in the court waiting area. If you must bring children with you on your court date, you will be taken into the court room after all defendants have been seen.
Due to limited space and fire code requirements, only the defendant is permitted in the courtroom. Other persons may enter in accordance to fire code limits.
If you have a disability, speak another language or require special accommodations in the courtroom, please call at least 24 hours before your hearing to allow the court time to properly assist you.

- For your convenience, you may pay tickets online. However, certain violations require a court appearance and are not available for online payment. You will be advised that your violation is a must appear when you attempt to pay online and you will not be allowed to pay at that time. Please note online payments must be made by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time the day before your court date.
- Also, please note that past due citations must be paid in person or by mail unless arrangements are made with the Solicitor or Court staff.
- All fine payments must be received no later than 24 hours prior to the scheduled court appearance.
- Please read the back of your citation for additional fine payment information for your arraignment.

Q: Where is the Court?
A: Smyrna’s Municipal Court is located at City Hall in the Council Chambers, first floor, 2800 King Street, Smyrna, Georgia. From Atlanta Road, take West Spring Street that runs into King Street. City Hall is at the end of West Spring Street. There is plenty of parking in the large rear lot behind City Hall.
Q: How are the bond amounts established?
A: The bonds are set by Mayor and Council and reviewed annually.
Q: Is it mandatory that I appear in Court?
A: Some violations require a court appearance and others do not. Please contact Court Services at 770-431-2804 to verify.
Q: Will there be a Spanish-speaking interpreter for me on my court date?
A: Yes, there is a Spanish-speaking interpreter at every court date.
Q: If I plead not guilty on my court date will the case be tried that same day?
A: No, your original court date is an arraignment date for you to enter your plea of guilty or not guilty. A plea of not guilty will require a new date, established by the court, for the purpose of trials only. The officer and any witnesses involved in your case will be subpoenaed to be in court on this new date.
Q: When may I obtain information from Court Services after receiving a citation?
A: Information is available 7 days after a citation is issued.
Q: Can I pay my fine on my court date without sitting through court?
A: All fines must be paid by 5:00 p.m. the day before your court date or you will have to appear at 9:00 a.m. on your scheduled court date. You may now pay court fees online.

The Probation Division ensures that offenders on probation comply with their sentences. In addition to collection of fines, restitution and court fees, the Probation Division oversee completion of community service and drug and alcohol treatment programs by offenders.

- How are my payments calculated?
We take the total amount of fees owed and total amount of fines owed and add them together to the total paid then divide monthly to get a minimum monthly payment. - Will I have to report monthly?
Yes, you are required to report in the office once a month. Failure to do so is a violation of probation. - Will probation show up on my record?
Yes, depending on the charge it will show up on your criminal history, traffic history or both. - Where can I do community services?
Community service has to be done at anon-profit organization, excluding churches, to be approved by your probation officer. - Am I allowed to consume alcohol while on probation in my own home even if my charge is not alcohol related?
NO! You are not to consume alcohol whatsoever while on probation. Doing so is a violation of your probation. - Am I subject to drug screens?
Yes, your probation may request a drug screen at any time at your expense. Failure to comply is a violation of your probation.
