Smyrna Recruitment Process:

Submit an application for the position of Police Officer by visiting the City's MSS.

Applicants will be required to complete and pass the POST Physical Fitness Test (PFT). This PFT is a timed obstacle course style test. For more information see our Career Opportunities page. (Insert link to the page)

Applicants will be given a writing prompt that must be answered in essay format within twenty minutes.

Applicants will then be required to participate in a panel interview. The panel consists of four officers, at different stages of their careers, and one representative from Human Resources. There are a total of eight questions that range from critical thinking to basic background information about the candidate.

After successfully passing the panel interview, candidates will interview with the Chief of Police.

Each candidate will be administered a CVSA test, which is used to verify the information provided by the candidate, and to confirm compliance with police officer standards. Candidates are asked questions regarding their employment history, illegal drug use history, criminal history, driver’s license history, and military history.

Candidates will be required to pass a background test. Each candidate will be given a background packet to complete, which will include questions regarding criminal history, driver history, credit history, work/school history, and job references.

Candidates will be required to successfully pass a psychological evaluation, administered by a licensed psychologist. The written portion of this testing takes approximately three to four hours, and is followed by an interview with a psychologist, which lasts approximately one hour.

Candidates that are successful to this point will be scheduled for a physical and drug screening.
Note: Steps 2 through 5 will be completed in one day which is scheduled by the background and recruiting officer.
