Deputy Chief Mark Binicewicz began his law enforcement career in 2002 as a Communications Officer with the City of Smyrna after serving four years in the United States Navy. Deputy Chief went to the police academy in late 2004 and became a mandated police officer in 2005. Deputy Chief Binicewicz served on the department’s SWAT team for 15 years. Deputy Chief Binicewicz has worked as a uniform patrol officer, undercover narcotics agent, FBI match taskforce officer, uniform patrol sergeant, street crimes sergeant, uniform patrol lieutenant, administrative lieutenant, 911 manager, internal affairs lieutenant, office of the professional standards division commander, and was promoted in December of 2022 to Deputy Chief of Police. Deputy Chief Binicewicz received his undergraduate degree from Columbia Southern University and his graduate degree from Reinhardt University in Public Administration. Deputy Chief Binicewicz graduated from Northwestern’s School of Police Staff and Command and recently graduated from the FBI National Academy session 283.
